Cadillac continues its Electrified Journey; Unveils Another Celestiq Model as the Brand Ponders Further than Electric Vehicles
Cadillac Delivers Second Celestiq EV to Owner Mark Mitchell
Cadillac, the iconic American luxury car brand, has delivered another Celestiq, its ultra-luxury flagship electric vehicle (EV), to its owner, Mark Mitchell. The event took place at The Daxton Hotel in Birmingham, a venue owned by Mitchell himself.
The Celestiq, equipped with a dual-motor all-wheel drive system, produces an impressive 655 hp and 646 lb-ft of torque. It is powered by a 111 kWh battery pack, providing approximately 303 miles of range. The delivered Celestiq features a Siku Tricoat exterior and a Camelia and Sheer Gray interior.
Mark Reuss, President of General Motors, was present at the delivery event and signed the car. This delivery marks a significant milestone for Cadillac, which has been on a transformative journey since 2015.
In 2015, Cadillac's product portfolio was struggling. However, the brand underwent a major rethink and a massive investment to transform itself. Part of this transformation included a plan for Cadillac to go electric-only, resulting in new models like the Optiq, Lyriq, Vistiq, Escalade IQ, and Celestiq.
Although the plan for an all-electric lineup was ultimately abandoned, Cadillac's commitment to EVs remains strong. Approximately 25% of Cadillac sales now come from EVs, with the Optiq, Lyriq, and Vistiq being considered "conquest kings," as more than 70% of buyers are new to the brand.
Meanwhile, Cadillac is also preparing to launch a new XT5. The redesigned XT5 is expected to echo its Chinese counterpart. Interestingly, the US-spec model of the next-generation XT5 will be made in Tennessee and could use a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder that develops 328 hp.
However, it seems that the XT4 and XT6 models are being phased out. As Cadillac continues to evolve, it's exciting to see what the future holds for this historic brand.
