Cadillac experiences significant setback at WEC's Austin event, with Porsche suffering as the second biggest loser in terms of speed.
The World Endurance Championship (WEC) is gearing up for an exciting race at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, with several teams facing significant changes due to Balance of Performance (BoP) adjustments.
In the latest shake-up, the Cadillac V-Series.Rs will carry an additional 19 kilograms, bringing its total weight to 1,059 kilograms. This places the American car slightly behind the heaviest contenders, Ferrari and Toyota, which remain at 1,069 kilograms.
Porsche, the second biggest loser in the BoP adjustments, will face a power restriction of 17.6 PS below the 250 km/h mark for the race in Austin. Above this speed, Porsche (+2.5 percent) and Cadillac (+0.9 percent) will gain a bit more power for the top-speed sections on the circuit. However, the power of Porsche's 963s has been reduced to 663 PS, making it the third-lowest engine power in the race, after Ferrari (652 PS) and Toyota (658 PS).
Porsche's factory team Penske and the customer racing team Proton must carry an additional 12 kilograms (now 1,065 kg) in Austin. The Alpine team, with Mick Schumacher, continues to lose performance and has an additional 1 kilogram (now 1,052 kg) and 8.1 PS less power below the 250 km/h limit.
Ferrari and Toyota remain largely unchanged compared to the last race in Brazil. On the other hand, BMW can unload 2 kilograms (now 1,056 kg), but loses 10.8 PS of engine power up to 250 km/h and gains +1.4 percent more power above the 250 km/h mark.
Aston Martin, another top-rated car, maintains its minimum weight of 1,030 kilograms and maximum system power of 707 PS. No Balance of Performance adjustments were made for Peugeot and Aston Martin.
The Peugeot hypercar drivers at Austin 2025 include Mikkel Jensen from Denmark; details about the Aston Martin hypercar drivers are not specified in the provided sources. Toyota loses 1.3 PS of power below the 250 km/h mark and gets 0.2 percent more power above the 250 km/h mark.
Peugeot was the fourth force in Brazil and scored the best result of the season so far with places six and seven. Ferrari gets a slight reduction (-0.8 percent) above the 250 km/h mark. No information was provided about the performance changes for other teams like Cadillac, Porsche, or ByKolles.
These BoP adjustments promise to add an extra layer of suspense to the WEC race in Austin, as teams strive to optimise their performance within the new parameters. The race is set to be a thrilling display of speed, strategy, and teamwork.
