Campus Recreation at Penn appoints James Rogers as its new director
James Rogers, a seasoned professional with a proven track record of advancement within institutions and member engagement, has been appointed as the new Director of Campus Recreation at the University of Pennsylvania (Penn).
Rogers' impressive tenure at the Spring Valley YMCA in Royersford, Pennsylvania, has caught the attention of Penn's T. Gibbs Kane, Jr. W'69 Director of Athletics and Recreation, Alanna Wren. Wren believes that Rogers' experience and ability to drive growth and success in recreational organisations will be a valuable asset to Penn's community.
For the past year, Rogers provided strategic and operational leadership for a 175,000 square foot flagship YMCA, overseeing operations that served over 17,000 members. His comprehensive marketing and member engagement strategy resulted in a 9% increase year-over-year in membership enrollment.
Under Rogers' leadership, the Spring Valley YMCA also achieved its highest-ever annual fundraising total, increasing the annual campaign by 36%. The organisation operated with a $6.4M budget during his tenure, demonstrating his success in both strategic leadership and operational management.
Prior to his role at Penn, Rogers spent three years as the director of university recreation at Drexel University. His predecessor institute was the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Rogers expresses his honour to join Penn's Division of Recreation and Intercollegiate Athletics and looks forward to collaborating with students, faculty, staff, and campus partners. He anticipates enhancing opportunities for wellness, engagement, and connection across the University and beyond.
Alanna Wren is looking forward to welcoming Rogers back to University City and joining the Penn community. Wren believes that Rogers' achievements at the Spring Valley YMCA showcase his ability to drive growth and success in recreational organisations and is confident that he will bring the same level of dedication and success to Penn.
Rogers anticipates a smooth transition, drawing on his experience managing a large-scale YMCA branch, and is excited to embark on this new chapter at Penn.
