"Canal Gaming with Robot in Hidden Parts of Mainz"

In the heart of Germany, the city of Mainz has become home to an unusual pair of local celebrities. For the past seven years, Salim Habib and Christian Ahl have been working for the Mainz public utility, and for the last year, they've been driving around town in a unique vehicle - the sewer TV vehicle.

These two sewer inspectors have gained recognition on the streets of Mainz while operating their elongated monster trucks, "Pano" and "Lizzy". Reminiscent of giant, wheeled creatures, these camera robots have become essential tools in maintaining the city's extensive sewer system.

With a digital map at their fingertips, Salim and Christian navigate through the 800 kilometers of Mainz's sewers and wastewater channels, inspecting the condition of the pipes and identifying potential issues. If laid out straight, the sewers of Mainz would reach Copenhagen, a testament to the city's intricate and extensive network.

"Pano" and "Lizzy" resemble elongated monster trucks with thick wheels, and the sewer TV vehicle is equipped with three screens and a joystick. Salim uses the joystick to control "Pano" through the sewers of Mainz, providing a bird's-eye view of the pipes on the screens.

The film material collected by "Pano" and "Lizzy" is evaluated at a desk, and any defects found are usually repaired by an external company. The robots have already spotted issues such as broken spots in the channels, tree roots entering the channels, and cross-connections of wastewater from household connections into stormwater channels.

Salim and Christian no longer need to go "down there" themselves for sewer inspections, as they can now control the camera robots from the comfort of the control center within their car. After being featured in a newspaper, the duo has become local celebrities, with passerby's approaching them to express their admiration for their work.

In one instance, a colleague's garden hides a shaft that leads to the sewer system, where Salim and Christian have been known to receive coffee and cake. A large photo of the duo is displayed on their car, making them easily recognizable in the streets of Mainz.

Salim Habib and Christian Ahl work as sewer inspectors for the Economic Operations of Mainz, and their work with the camera robots has transformed the way sewer inspections are conducted in the city. Their dedication to maintaining the city's sewer system has made them local heroes, ensuring the smooth flow of wastewater in Mainz for years to come.
