Cancellation of the last event for the problem-ridden hot-air balloon festival in Hong Kong announced
The final session of the AIA International Hot Air Balloon Fest Hong Kong, scheduled to take place at the Central Harbourfront in Hong Kong, has been cancelled due to Tropical Storm Tapah. The storm, which was nearing the city, caused the issuance of a No 3 signal in the early hours of Sunday, and later, a No 8 typhoon signal between 9pm and midnight.
The cancellation includes all events associated with the final session, not just the balloon display and concert. The concert featuring Hong Kong singer and actor Leo Ku Kui-kei, which was scheduled for Sunday evening, was also cancelled due to the bad weather. A related concert was also affected by the cancellation.
Grand Events Asia, the organizer of the event, announced that detailed refund arrangements for the cancelled events will be announced on official platforms. However, it's important to note that the refund arrangements do not cover the cancellation of the morning session, which was also due to the storm.
The safety of attendees, performers, and staff was the primary concern for the organisers, who decided to cancel the events. No apology was issued by Grand Events Asia for the cancellation of the final session.
The four-day event, which was set to run from Thursday to Sunday, was expected to be a spectacle of colourful hot air balloons filling the Hong Kong sky. Unfortunately, Tropical Storm Tapah had other plans.
The organisers urge everyone to stay safe during the storm and look forward to better weather for future events. For updates on refund arrangements and future events, keep an eye on Grand Events Asia's official platforms.
