Cardiology Experts at S.L. Raheja Hospital, Mahim Implement Groundbreaking Aortic Valve Replacement Procedure with Innovative Valve, Achieving Doubled Valve Durability in India

In a significant milestone for cardiac care in India, S.L. Raheja Hospital, Mahim - A Fortis Associate, has successfully performed Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) for the first time in the country. The procedure was carried out on a 73-year-old male patient who was suffering from severe Aortic Stenosis, severe Biventricular Failure, and Acute Renal Failure requiring Dialysis.

The TAVR procedure was conducted by a team of skilled doctors, including Dr. Haresh Mehta, Dr. Kayan Sioda, and Dr. Raghav Nagpal. Notably, Dr. Sharad Sheth, who led the team, performed the procedure using the innovative Resilia valve. This valve, designed to last for 20-22 years, nearly doubles the longevity compared to existing options in TAVR.

The adoption of the Resilia valve technology reflects S.L. Raheja Hospital's commitment to elevating healthcare standards. This cutting-edge technology has the potential to significantly reduce the likelihood of repeat surgeries for patients, offering a longer, healthier, and improved quality of life.

Dr. Haresh Mehta, Director of Interventional Cardiology and Structural Heart Interventions at S.L. Raheja Hospital, spoke about the achievement, highlighting the role of advanced technology and teamwork in treating critically ill patients. He expressed his satisfaction with the successful implantation of the Resilia valve, which was done in a minimally invasive technique that did not require opening the chest.

Following the procedure, the patient is scheduled to get discharged in 24 hours. No special post-surgical care beyond routine recovery is required for this procedure.

Dr. Kunal Punamiya, CEO of S.L. Raheja Hospital, Mahim - A Fortis Associate, commented on the achievement. He emphasized the dedication of the medical team and the trust placed in them by patients. He also highlighted that Fortis Healthcare Limited, a leading integrated healthcare delivery service provider in India, operates 33 healthcare facilities across 11 states, with Fortis Healthcare Limited's network comprising over 5,700 operational beds and 400 diagnostics labs.

The successful implantation of the Resilia valve marks a significant shift in patient outcomes and offers hope to patients who were previously considered untreatable. This achievement positions S.L. Raheja Hospital at the forefront of advanced cardiac interventions in India.
