CDU leader Slawig anticipates resolution for past financial obligations
In a show of vigor and clarity, Friedrich Merz, the chairman of the CDU circle, has committed to structural reforms aimed at sustainably relieving municipal budgets. This commitment was made at the recent state party conference, where Merz personally experienced the gravity of the issue.
The massive increase in the costs of social services has been identified as a major cause of the budget crisis faced by many municipalities. To address this, Merz has pledged to ensure that the federal government secures the other half of the debt solution. This promise follows the announcement by NRW Minister President Hendrik WΓΌst and Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz, who made clear promises at the state party conference.
The former city treasurer believes that consolidating municipal budgets is more important than solving the old debt problem. This sentiment is shared by Matthias Nocke, a candidate for mayor, who calls for lasting structural changes in costs such as housing, integration, and youth welfare.
In a significant development, the CDU governments in DΓΌsseldorf and Berlin are credited for a breakthrough. They have managed to secure funding to cover half of the cash credits, starting this year and running for 30 years. NRW will provide β¬250 million per year, which does not burden municipal budgets.
The federal and state governments are also expected to engage more in the financing of language courses for better integration. Sufficient funding for mastery of the German language is seen as a nationwide task, according to Matthias Nocke.
The structural reforms at the federal level are crucial to sustainably relieve municipal budgets, which showed a deficit of around β¬25 billion last year. The former city treasurer fears an even higher deficit for this year. However, with Merz's commitment and the breakthrough achieved by the CDU governments, there is hope for a brighter future for municipal finances.
I am very grateful to Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz for committing to these structural reforms. His leadership and dedication to addressing the budget crisis are commendable, and I look forward to seeing the positive impact of these reforms on municipal budgets across the country.
