Celebrating its fifth anniversary: DJ school based in Chemnitz marks milestone

The Ma Skills School in Chemnitz, a renowned DJ school, is set to celebrate its fifth anniversary this Saturday. Founded by Matthias Harzdorf, also known as DJ Mathew, the school has been a driving force in the development of the DJ scene in the city over the past five years.

DJ Mathew, a World DJ Champion from Dresden, will be joining the celebration. He started offering workshops at the school as a response to cancelled gigs during the Corona crisis. The anniversary celebration will take place at the school's location at Limbacher Straße 13 in Chemnitz.

The facility is packed with equipment, photos of DJs, old newspaper clippings, and a corner dedicated to Batman. Since 2019, over a hundred students have learned DJ skills from Matthias Harzdorf at the Ma Skills School. The 115th student/DJ has recently attended the school.

The anniversary celebration will feature a variety of DJs, including Eskei83 from Dresden and DJ Ron. Apart from the showcase, the event will include a BBQ, panels, workshops, and a screen printing action. Tickets for the celebration are available for 65 euros via the Instagram page "maskills_djschool" and include food, drinks, and the entire day's program.

One student who particularly impresses Matthias Harzdorf is a 59-year-old from a care facility. DJing has given him a new lease on life, demonstrating the transformative power of music and the school's mission to inspire and educate.

Students at the school range in age from 9 to 61, reflecting the school's commitment to making DJing accessible to all. Matthias Harzdorf started DJing at 12 years old by staying up late to watch TV, record songs on cassette tapes, and dub them for classmates.

In addition to the anniversary celebration, the Ma Skills School also offers regular workshops for learning DJ skills. Matthias Harzdorf previously gave workshops at the Kraftwerk, further solidifying his reputation as a respected figure in the DJ community.
