"Celebration is only appropriate for the secure and unthreatened"
The city of Wiesbaden, Germany, is set to raise the bar for security at large-scale events with the introduction of state-of-the-art mobile access barriers at the Rheingau Wine Week 2025.
These innovative barriers, which are currently the lowest certified mobile single system on the market with a penetration depth of 12.3 meters, serve as a flexible interim solution bridging the time until permanently installed systems are implemented at designated locations. The new barriers are designed to protect people without compromising the event space, maintaining an unobtrusive presence and not disrupting the festive atmosphere.
The investment in these new barriers amounts to approximately 2.8 million euros, a significant step towards enhancing the city's future security. The barriers are designed to allow emergency vehicles, prams, wheelchairs, and bicycles to pass through in case of an emergency, ensuring the safety of all attendees.
The Rheingau Wine Week, set to take place in 2025, will serve as a showcase for this new security concept, potentially setting nationwide standards. Thousands of visitors are expected to attend the event to enjoy regional wines, meet friends, and listen to music.
The Rheingau Wine Week is more than just a wine festival. It is a series of city events that includes the WilhelmstraΓe Festival and the Kranzplatz Festival. In previous years, the events have featured presentations of around 1,000 wines and sparkling wines from regional winemakers and Wiesbaden's partner cities.
The city police are regularly on patrol at these events, providing a reassuring presence to most visitors. During the last Rheingau Wine Week, there were only "two and a half brawls", according to the city police leader, with half of one resulting in a scuffle.
For those planning to attend the 45th Rheingau Wine Week in 2025, event ticket holders will be able to drive to the castle square and return home, thanks to improved parking arrangements around the market square.

As Wiesbaden continues to lead the way in event security, the Rheingau Wine Week 2025 promises to be an exciting and secure event for all attendees.
