Celebration of International Museum Day Happening This Sunday
On Sunday, May 21, 2023, the city of Pforzheim invites everyone to a day filled with art, history, and creativity as it celebrates International Museum Day. From 10 am to 5 pm, a multitude of museums and galleries will open their doors, offering free admission for most exhibitions.
At CafeΜ Roland, the day concludes with a jazz concert. The Technical Museum, on the other hand, showcases the history of the Pforzheim jewelry and watch industry, and even offers goldsmith workshops for those who wish to try their hand at jewelry making.
The Schmuckmuseum Pforzheim hosts two exhibitions: "From Travel and Collecting Lust" and "einKlang" - a three-part work group consisting of glass jewelry, leather objects, and an interactively experiencable sound installation by Vanessa Tschenktke. The latter is a unique blend of art and sound, promising a memorable experience for visitors.
The Pforzheim Gallery presents the exhibition "With Hydraulic Lightness - The World of Dieter Huthmacher", offering a chance to immerse yourself in the vibrant works of this renowned artist. The gallery also offers free workshops for children and adults to create watercolor paintings inspired by Huthmacher's works.
The Museum Johannes Reuchlin offers a display of the life's work of the European humanist who advocated for tolerance. Meanwhile, at the City Museum, visitors can go on a journey through the history of Pforzheim from the Middle Ages to the post-war period.
The Municipal Museums and Galleries in Pforzheim have planned special programs for the event. The Moki mobile, the children's offers at the City Museum, provides a fun and educational experience where children can prepare dishes using herbs from the museum's own herb garden with the help of a pedal-powered machine.
The Kunstverein Pforzheim im Reuchlinhaus, Galerie BrΓΆtzinger Art e. V., and Alfons-Kern-Tower (A.K.T.) are also participating and showcasing their current exhibitions. The Archaeological Museum invites visitors to participate in a treasure hunt and learn about the founding of Pforzheim.
The Rural Museum in Eutingen demonstrates rural life, with Irmtraud Raiser teaching visitors to create grass baskets with natural materials. The Technical Museum also has the Moki mobile present, featuring a drawing machine developed with students from the University of Pforzheim.
Admission is free in all museums on this day, except for the special exhibition "From Travel and Collecting Lust" at the Schmuckmuseum, which has a reduced admission fee. The program brochure for the event can be found in all museums, with cultural carriers, and at the tourist information office. For more information, visit www.pforzheim.de/museumstag.
