Certified Fair Trade Symbol

Heidenoldendorf Primary School in Detmold has made history as the first public secondary school in the city to achieve Fairtrade School certification. This achievement, a testament to the school's commitment to global responsibility and solidarity, was initiated and led by teacher Franziska Altmann.

In a heartfelt speech, Altmann emphasized that Fairtrade means taking responsibility for a fairer world, sustainable action, and conscious consumption. She expressed her pride in the school's efforts and thanked everyone involved, including students, teaching staff, the Fairtrade Detmold steering group, the representatives of the city portal, and Michael Duchting from Fairtrade Schools Germany, as well as Mayor Wolfgang Schriegel.

Principal Katrin Freitag echoed Altmann's sentiments, expressing pride in her school's mix of commitment, creativity, and unity. She stated that this achievement sets Heidenoldendorf Primary School apart and is a strong signal for future-oriented education.

The school's commitment to Fairtrade and sustainability was demonstrated not just on the day of the certification, but every day. The diverse event program brought this commitment to life, with highlights including a clothing swap event that emphasized environmental protection and social responsibility, and the "Fairtrade Football Cup," which focused on sportsmanship and resource awareness.

Fair-trade products were offered at various food stands during the event, providing insights into sustainable consumption. The Grabbe-Gymnasium in Detmold has also emphasized sustainability through Fairtrade certification, with the project initiated and led by teacher Greta Spieß.

With this achievement, Heidenoldendorf Primary School has set an example for other schools to follow. Freitag's goal is to continue anchoring sustainability in daily school life and strengthening awareness of global connections among young people. The success of the school's Fairtrade certification serves as motivation to continue its commitment to sustainability.
