Charity event, ZEvent, shatters previous records by collecting an impressive β¬16 million for various health associations
In a historic moment, the ninth edition of the ZEvent took place this weekend at the Corum in Montpellier, shattering the record for the largest online charity event in France. The event, which was broadcast on Twitch, raised an astonishing 16,179,096 euros for associations supporting patients, caregivers, and children with cancer.
The 48-hour marathon was filled with non-stop entertainment, including live cooking shows, karaoke, and a boxing ring. Streamers from around the country, approximately 40 in total, participated in the event, each bringing their unique energy to the table.
One of the standout participants was Marie Lopez, alias EnjoyPhoenix, who commented on the intense atmosphere of the event. Another notable figure was Samuel Etienne, an animator, who got a tattoo for several hours during the event as a symbol of his commitment to the cause.
The funds raised during the event will be distributed among several organisations, including the French League Against Cancer, the French Association of Caregivers, Rire MΓ©decin (hospital clowns), and Sourire Γ la Vie (support care for children with cancer). With the association L'Envol, 700 children who are hospitalised for long stays will benefit from free holiday camps starting from next year.
FrΓ©dΓ©ric Theret, director of development at the Foundation de France, accompanied the event for three years to manage the preselection of associations based on the theme chosen by the streamers. He played a crucial role in ensuring that the funds were directed towards the most impactful causes.
Streamers expressed their gratitude to donors as donations appeared on their screens, creating a sense of camaraderie and shared purpose. The ambient noise, a testament to the enthusiasm and engagement of the participants and viewers, was a notable aspect of the event.
It's worth noting that the platform Kick organized a collection for access to clean water in August, raising 12 million dollars. However, the association linked with the lifelong suicide of Jean Pormanove in connection with the organization of the ZEvent event is not publicly known.
Despite the intensity and length of the event, the streamers and organisers managed to maintain a high level of energy throughout, making the ZEvent 2024 a truly memorable occasion. The record-breaking fundraising event not only raised significant funds for worthy causes but also demonstrated the power of community and the impact of online events in driving social change.
