Cheese manufacturing company embraces butter expert Meggle as its new lead
Meggle Holding SE, a leading company specialising in butter and butter products, has announced its intention to acquire northern German dairy Rücker. The acquisition, subject to the approval of antitrust authorities, would see Meggle Holding SE become one of the largest private dairies in Germany.
Founded in 1887, Meggle Holding SE achieved a turnover of around 1.4 billion euros in the business year 2024. The dairy processing giant currently processes approximately 700 million kg of milk annually and has a strong focus on cheese production.
Rücker, on the other hand, is a traditional dairy company led by Klaus and Insa Rücker. The dairy primarily produces cheese products, which are sold under the Rücker brand and private labels in Germany and abroad. In the past year, the dairy's turnover was around 500 million euros, and it employs 610 employees at its locations in East Frisia and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
The acquisition of Rücker by Meggle Holding SE is an important milestone for the butter specialist. Meggle finds a partner in Rücker that shares similar values and complements the product range well. Klaus Rücker, the managing shareholder of dairy Rücker, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating that Meggle's expertise in butter production would be a valuable addition to their cheese offerings.
Rücker produces in Aurich and Wismar and is known for its high expertise and innovation power in cheese and milk processing. The acquisition aims to further develop the cheese segment as a core area for Meggle Holding SE.
In 2022, Meggle Holding SE already acquired Stegmann Emmentaler Cheese GmbH, and the acquisition of dairy Rücker is another step towards significantly growing in the cheese segment. The confirmation of the acquisition report was made in an afternoon press release by Meggle and Rücker.
The predecessor committee of the Supervisory Board of Meggle Holding SE that monitored the resolution for the acquisition of Rücker is not publicly specified. The takeover is subject to the approval of the antitrust authorities, and more details about the acquisition are expected to be announced in due course.
