Chef Gordon Ramsay discloses undergoing a skin cancer removal procedure
Gordon Ramsay, the renowned TV chef, recently took to Instagram to share a powerful message about sun safety, following his treatment for Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC). The post, which featured a picture of Ramsay with a scar stitched up below his ear, was met with support from fellow celebrities and health organisations.
The skin cancer removed from Ramsay was a type of cancer known as BCC, a common form of skin cancer that is usually caused by excessive exposure to UV light. Risk factors for BCC include older age, having pale skin, and a history of skin cancer.
The incident that led to Ramsay's diagnosis was a bike accident in the US in June last year. In his post, Ramsay did not mention any face lift procedure, clarifying that the treatment was not for cosmetic purposes.
Cancer Research UK commented on Ramsay's post, thanking him for raising awareness about the importance of sun safety. The organisation highlighted the seriousness of melanoma skin cancers, which are more difficult to treat compared to BCC. Ramsay's post emphasised the importance of sun safety measures, including seeking shade, covering up, and applying sunscreen regularly and generously.
Ramsay also expressed gratitude and appreciation towards his medical team, and urged his fans to remember to wear sun cream. His post received a heartfelt response from TV judge Robert Rinder, who posted a heart emoji in support.
