Choosing Your Favorites in Top Stories Search Results: A Step-by-Step Guide
Google has launched a new feature called Preferred Sources in Search, allowing users to customise their News experience and see more content from their favourite sites within Top Stories.
The feature, developed and launched by Google, enables users in the USA and India to select their preferred news sources. Early Labs users have provided valuable input and learning to guide the design of Preferred Sources, but no specific external individual contributors are named in the available information.
To select your preferred sources, simply search for a topic that's in the news and click on the icon to the right of Top Stories. You can choose as many sources as you like, and they will appear more frequently in Top Stories or in a dedicated "From your sources" section on the search results page.
Publishers can encourage their followers and subscribers to select their website as a preferred source by using resources found in the dedicated help center. Over half of users who have used Preferred Sources in Labs have chosen four or more sources.
Preferred Sources works by displaying more articles from chosen sources prominently within Top Stories when those sources have published fresh and relevant content for a user's search. However, you'll still see content from other sites, and you can manage your selections at any time.
This is one of the many ways you can customise your Search experience to find the information that is most relevant to you. If you've previously signed up in Labs, your selections will automatically apply, and you'll continue to see more of those sites within Top Stories.
Preferred Sources is currently available in the U.S. and India and will be broadly available in the coming days. So, start searching and selecting your preferred sources to stay updated on the latest content from the sites you follow and subscribe to.
