"Christina Block's Brief Composition: 'A Few Words'"
In the Hamburg Regional Court, Christina Block, daughter of Eugen Block (founder of the steakhouse chain "Block House"), testified on July 25th, denying charges that she commissioned the abduction of her two youngest children. The trial, scheduled for 30 days with the possibility of extending into next year, has been a strain and an enormous burden for Block.
The abduction took place on New Year's Eve of 2023/24 in Denmark. Stephan Hensel, the ex-husband of Christina Block, raised a custody dispute during the trial. The court ordered the father to hand over the children, but Christina Block could not enforce her claim in Danish courts.
Next to Christina Block in the indictment scenario stand her partner Gerhard Delling, and key other persons involved include the alleged ringleader David B., his "right hand" Olga (real name Keren T.), and Israeli S. who is said to have participated in the child abduction operation. A 63-year-old lawyer from the Block group, a 36-year-old Israeli, and a third suspect are also charged in the case.
Block's lawyer Otmar Kury has taken over from Ingo Bott as duty counsel. During her testimony, Block emphasized that these ideas seemed crazy in hindsight. She discussed various recovery scenarios for her children, including using a boat, a helicopter, a teacher infiltrating the Danish school, and a makeup artist posing as the new wife of her ex-husband.
Stephan Hensel's lawyer, Philip von der Meden, questioned Block about why she didn't try to obtain visitation rights with the children in Denmark. Block responded that this was a ploy to make her give up her legal claim in Germany. She has been expressing herself fully since her children were taken from her four years ago, and she plans to answer all questions.
The audience in the courtroom reacted positively to Block's account with spontaneous applause. The court proceedings focused on how the commissioning of the Israeli security firm occurred, ideas for the recovery, and what was said into Christina Block's mobile phone diary.
In addition to Block and her associates, a 66-year-old man and a 58-year-old manager of a Hamburg security company, as well as a relative (49) of Block and her husband (55), are also charged with aiding and abetting. Stephan Hensel was allegedly injured during the abduction of the children. The trial is expected to continue with further testimonies and evidence presentations.
