City invests in enhancing animal care and well-being
The Orihuela City Council has announced that the long-awaited renovation of the Orihuela Animal Protection Centre (CPA) in San BartolomΓ© is set to begin soon. The project, which is a top priority for the government, is expected to be completed within three months and will cost β¬207,136.
Councillor Irene Celdran, who is leading the renovation project, emphasizes the importance of safe and comfortable spaces for animals. She praised the dedication of ASOKA volunteers, who provide daily support at the centre, and expressed her gratitude for their hard work in caring for animals awaiting adoption.
The planned works include installing waterproof, easy-to-clean floors, reinforcing walls with durable coatings, and upgrading the sewage system to address long-standing water system failures caused by the 2019 DANA. Updated finishes will support hygienic operations, while carpentry and locksmithing improvements will strengthen security.
The renovated Orihuela Animal Protection Centre will provide more modern care to animals in need, ensuring they receive the best possible treatment during their stay at the facility. Workplace safety measures will also be upgraded to ensure safe operations for staff and volunteers.
Tendering for the renovation project is imminent, but the name of the architect or firm responsible for the modernization plan has not been publicly disclosed. The council is committed to ensuring the project is completed to the highest standards, providing a much-needed upgrade to the current facility, which has damaged resin flooring, detached ceramic tiles, and recurring sewage blockages.
With the renovation project nearly complete, the Orihuela Animal Protection Centre is set to offer a brighter future for the animals in its care, providing a safe, clean, and modern environment for their recovery and eventual adoption.
