City of Magdeburg Joins National Alert Day on September 11th

The city of Magdeburg is set to participate in the National Warning Day on September 11th, marking the second time it takes part in this important event. This nationwide exercise aims to test the existing warning infrastructure in a coordinated process, with the goal of ensuring the system is functioning optimally.

On the day, various warning amplifiers and communication channels will be tested by the police, fire department, emergency medical services, civil protection agencies, and disaster control authorities across the state. The test warning will be triggered at 11:00 AM by the national warning center at the Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (BBK).

During the test, a one-minute rising and falling tone will be heard near the sirens in Magdeburg. For the all-clear, a one-minute steady tone will be used. It is important to note that devices with the silent mode activated may emit a reception tone during the test.

The test will last for 45 minutes, with the all-clear at 11:45 AM. The city of Magdeburg is planning to expand its existing warning system in the coming years, as decided by the city council.

In addition to the sirens, the sending of warning messages to mobile phones (Cell Broadcast) will be tested again on September 11th. A list of compatible devices for receiving Cell Broadcast messages can be found on the website of the Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (www.bbk.bund.de).

For those interested in evaluating the effectiveness of the existing warning methods, the Fire Protection, Rescue Service, and Disaster Control Office of Magdeburg invites voluntary and anonymous participation in a survey. A survey link will be published on Thursday.

The disaster protection in Magdeburg continues to rely on digital display boards and the NINA warning app, both of which can be found on the BBK website. The NINA warning app can also be found on the BBK website at www.bbk.bund.de.

Further information about the nationwide National Warning Day can be found on the internet at www.warnung-der-bevoelkerung.de.
