City residents can obtain PointID cameras starting tomorrow at local citizen offices
In the picturesque city of Passau, digital transformation is taking centre stage, aiming to simplify administrative procedures and provide citizens with added value. Since August 2025, the city has introduced a series of digital initiatives that have streamlined various processes, from ID card and passport applications to vehicle registrations.
One significant change is the mandatory use of digital biometric photographs since August 2025. This shift eliminates the need for paper photos, as digital photographs can now be created directly during the application process in two citizen offices of the city. The "PointID" system of the Federal Printing Office, introduced on August 13, 2025, is responsible for capturing biometric data such as photographs, fingerprints, and signatures for passport and ID documents.
The city's digital transformation extends beyond photography. Since May 2025, the application process for ID cards, passports, and foreigner-related documents has been simplified nationwide. Online appointment scheduling has been available for around 4.5 years, making it easier for citizens to plan their visits to the city's offices.
The city administration is also converting the entire accounting process to a new accounting workflow. Furthermore, digital solutions have been enabled for numerous applications, including housing benefits, BAfΓΆG applications, driving licenses, registry office, registration office, vehicle registration, and building permit applications.
A new, free online service called "Online Information Vehicle Registration Documents" allows users to check the availability of registration certificate part II for financed or leased vehicles. This service eliminates the need for users to wait or pay for sending the vehicle registration document to the registration authority. If the vehicle registration document is available, an appointment can be made at the citizen office of the city of Passau, Passavia location, for registration.
All these services can be found by citizens on the city's website: passau.de/online-services. The city of Passau offers around 190 online services in the BayernPortal, with a rising trend.
The city administration is currently implementing the comprehensive introduction of the e-file and centralizing application and input channels regarding online services. One device for taking digital photographs is available in the citizen office in the Old Town Hall, and two devices are available in the citizen office in the Passavia service center. The fee for a digital photograph is 6 euros per photograph.
However, the search results do not provide information on which organization installed devices for creating digital passport photos in the citizen offices of the city of Passau. The photograph is taken at the terminal, digitally checked, and can be repeated if necessary. The status can be checked online, around the clock, and without charge.
The city of Passau continues to strive for a more digitally connected future, aiming to make administrative procedures more efficient and citizen-friendly.
