College shootings in Idaho: Police bodycam footage discloses emotional conversation with surviving dorm mate

In a chilling 28-minute interview with Moscow Police Sgt. Dustin Blaker on November 13, 2022, Bethany Funke, a survivor of the tragic University of Idaho murders, recounted the events leading up to the horrific incident.

On the fateful night of November 12, 2022, Funke had spent the evening at a college party, with the house filled with friends. Around 1 a.m., she watched "Vampire Diaries" with a friend who later left, leaving Funke alone at home. No one else had returned yet.

At around 4:20 a.m., Funke tried to call her roommates but received no response. Shortly after, she was woken up by a strange sound that she thought was a firework or something falling under her door. She also thought she heard her dog, Murphy, barking.

Funke's roommate, Dylan Mortensen, called her around the same time. However, the conversation was brief, and Funke didn't have any reason to suspect anything was amiss.

Meanwhile, four students - Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Ethan Chapin, and Xana Kernodle - were brutally stabbed to death in a house near the university. The investigation into the murders has been extensive, with a new "20/20" episode, "Idaho Justice," airing on ABC and streaming on Hulu on Sept. 5, 2022, delving into the case.

Interestingly, a month before the murders, Kaylee Goncalves had described seeing a shadowy figure outside her house. This mysterious presence caused eerie feelings but has not been definitively identified. Some speculation and court attention suggest it might have been related to Bryan Kohberger, the suspect charged with the murders.

However, Funke stated that none of their roommates had any issues with ex-boyfriends or had complaints about stalking.

The interview was recorded on police body camera and obtained by a records request. Funke was unsure about what she saw and didn't hear any screams or signs of struggle. She described her encounter as vague and not particularly alarming at the time.

This tragic event has left a lasting impact on the University of Idaho community, and the investigation continues to unfold. Bryan Kohberger, the now-admitted killer, pleaded guilty to all charges and was sentenced to life in prison plus 10 years.
