Elderly Cyclist Involved in Freight Train Accident at Unguarded Crossing
An 80-year-old man was involved in an accident with a freight train at an unguarded railway crossing in the village of Engelbrechtsche Wildnis, district of Steinburg. The incident occurred in the afternoon, causing disruptions to the route from Hamburg to Westerland.
The man was attempting to cross the tracks with his bicycle when he failed to notice the approaching train. The train driver initiated an emergency brake to prevent a more serious accident, but the bicycle was touched by the train, and the man and his vehicle landed in the gravel bed.
Remarkably, the 80-year-old survived the accident almost unscathed, with only slight injuries. He was treated by the rescue service and taken to the hospital.
