Collision occurred at the terminal end of the street
In an unfortunate incident, a collision on the A1 motorway heading towards Dortmund caused significant disruption on Friday evening, 29th August. The incident occurred around 5:30 PM, between the Cologne-North interchange and the Niehl exit.
The collision involved an Audi, driven by a 43-year-old individual, and a stationary articulated lorry. Tragically, the driver of the Audi sustained severe injuries and passed away at the scene. The driver of the lorry, aged 34, was present at the incident.
The authorities immediately swung into action, with the Cologne Police Department's traffic accident investigation team (Verkehrsunfallaufnahmeteam) and the public prosecutor's office (Staatsanwaltschaft) Cologne taking charge of the investigation.
As a result of the investigation, the A1 has been closed from the Cologne-North interchange heading towards Dortmund. Vehicles caught in the traffic jam are being redirected back to the Cologne-North interchange. The police are urging motorists to avoid the area and seek alternative routes.
The investigation is currently ongoing, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available. Our thoughts are with the families and friends affected by this tragic incident.
