A Community Gathers in Schoenthal Park: A Picnic Festival with a Purpose
Schoenthal Park in Aschaffenburg was filled with life once again on July 13th, as the city hosted a picnic festival aimed at reclaiming the park and fostering a sense of community.
Mayor Jürgen Herzing stated that the event was organized to breathe new life into the park, providing a space for families, individuals, and community groups to come together.
The festival was a collaborative effort, with the city collaborating with various associations and organizations, including Migrants for Migrants e.V., One Day e.V., GESTA e.V., MIZ e.V., integration guides, and family support points of the city of Aschaffenburg.
The festival's program was diverse and inclusive, with performances by the Circus Theo d'Or of the Dalberg Gymnasium, Theater Einfach Riesig, McKennas Theater, and "Geraldino & the Plomsters." The Moroccan communities also offered mint tea, pastries, and craft activities for children at the blue piano.
The festival was not just an event, but also aimed to make Schoenthal Park a peaceful place of encounter on a regular basis. Churches offered conversations for children and adults, inviting participation in a "Hope Puzzle" at the site of the incident that occurred on January 22nd, when a mentally ill man attacked a kindergarten group in the park, stabbing a little boy and a man.
Approximately 1500 adults and children attended the "Picnic in Schoenthal Park" family festival, providing a powerful reminder of the importance of community and the healing power of coming together. Attendees had the opportunity to picnic, listen to music, be inspired by artistic performances and theater, and remember together.
