Commemoration event set for Sunday, 14th of September, 2025
On September 14, 2025, Hanau, a city in Germany, will join over 5,000 locations nationwide in the Day of Open Monuments. Here's a guide to some of the exciting activities and tours that Hanau has in store for visitors.
Museum Obertor Located at Alte Rathausstraße 31, Museum Obertor will be open from 3 to 5 pm. Visitors can take a tour of the town hall built from 1725 to 1733, led by Martin Hoppe.
Comoedienhaus Wilhelmsbad At Parkpromenade 4, Comoedienhaus Wilhelmsbad will host a lecture at 11 am. Architect Prof. Ernst-Ulrich Scheffler will discuss the creation of the theater as part of the Baroque Gesamtkunstwerk Wilhelmsbad. The lecture costs 5 euros and benefits the Karussellverein and the renovation of Comoedienhaus.
Museum Schloss Steinheim Hochfeldweg 5, 89555 Steinheim am Albuch, Germany, is the address for Museum Schloss Steinheim. At 3 pm, Michael H. Sprenger will lead a family Celtic Costume Tour. This exciting journey back in time to the world of the Celts costs 2.50 Euro for children, 6 Euro for adults, and 10 Euro for families. At the same time, a "Sunday at Three" tour through the special exhibition "Prince Georg's Garden Dream" will also be available, costing 3 Euro plus admission.

Museum Railway Hanau e V The Museum Railway Hanau e V maintains numerous steam and diesel locomotives with carriages at the site. Guided tours of these historical railway depot will be offered at 11 am, 1 pm, and 3 pm.
Neustadt Town Hall The Neustadt Town Hall will offer a tour at 2 pm on the day of the event.
German Goldsmiths' House Hanau Altstädter Markt 6, Hanau-Innenstadt will be the venue for a tour at 3 pm on the day of the event.
Hauptfriedhof Hanau The Hauptfriedhof Hanau will offer a tour at 11 am on the day of the event.
Staatspark Hanau-Wilhelmsbad Staatspark Hanau-Wilhelmsbad will offer a special themed tour through the park on the day of the event.
Gustav-Adolf-Kirche Gustav-Adolf-Kirche in Hanau-Großauheim will be open from 10 am to 6 pm on the day of the event. Guided tours will be offered at 2 pm and 4 pm.
Prince Georg's garden, previously unknown, was the residence of the second son of Ludwig I, Grand Duke of Hesse and by Rhine, from 1809 to 1813. Visitors can explore this fascinating piece of history during the Day of Open Monuments in Hanau.
