Commemorative Open Day in the year 2025

Get ready to explore the rich history and architectural wonders of Chemnitz as the city hosts the 32nd Day of Open Monuments on Sunday, September 14, starting at 10 am.

This year's event, themed "Worth-while: priceless or irreplaceable?", promises to be an exciting journey through time, showcasing the city's cultural monuments and their unique stories.

One of the highlights of the day will be the official opening at the former textile factory of the "Saxon Tulle Factory Aktiengesellschaft" located at Zwickauer Straße 145. Visitors will have the opportunity to delve into the history of this remarkable building, whose architect remains undocumented.

The Evangelical Methodist Peace Church, built between 1893 and 1894 in neo-Gothic style, is another must-see. The organiser for this monument, the Learning and Memorial Site Kaßberg Prison e. V., invites everyone to learn about its history and significance.

For those interested in modern architecture, the Agricolagymnasium, located in the Park of the Victims of Fascism, is a must-visit. This cultural monument, designed in the style of Hamburg's modern architecture, will be open for exploration.

The City Hall, an individual monument of the City Hall ensemble and a significant cultural monument of DDR architecture, located at Theaterstraße 3, will also be open for visitors. The Chemnitz Clinic gGmbH is the organiser for the Küchwald Clinic Chemnitz.

The House Ehregott Hermann Dost, located at Dresdner Straße 133, is currently being restored to its original state. Visitors can witness the progress and learn about the history of this building.

For those who prefer a guided tour, options include the City Tour starting at the Chemnitz City Bath, Mühlenstraße 27, organised by Guide Grit Linke. The tour will focus on residential and commercial buildings on Straße der Nationen.

Art enthusiasts will not want to miss the Karl Schmidt-Rottluff Mill, organised by the Karl Schmidt-Rottluff Support Association e. V. The Industrial Museum Chemnitz and the Schloßberg Museum are also participating organisations, offering insights into their respective monuments.

The day's events will not be limited to tours and openings. The Chemnitz Viaduct Festival at the Eisenbahnviadukt, taking place on September 13 from 3 to 9 pm, will feature an exhibition, guided tours, music, and participation opportunities for all age groups.

Registration for some events may be required. For instance, those interested in visiting the Wittgensdorf Church should call 0371 488 4501 to register.

Join us on September 14 for a day filled with history, culture, and exploration as we celebrate the Day of Open Monuments in Chemnitz.
