Heritage Day in Detmold: A Journey Through History and Culture

On September 14, Detmold will participate in the nationwide Heritage Day event, offering a diverse program for all generations. The theme of this year's event is "Worth-it: Priceless or irreplaceable," and the city has prepared an exciting lineup of tours, lectures, and activities that connect architecture, culture, and living city history.

One of the highlights of the day is the presentation of the unique salon organ at Detmold Castle. This extraordinary instrument, housed in the castle since 1916, has been silent since 1944. On Heritage Day, visitors will have the opportunity to witness its restoration and public presentation for the first time. The salon organ will be played multiple times throughout the day, providing a musical backdrop to the festivities.

For those interested in local history, two guided tours are available. The Sinalco AG tour, meeting at Bahnhofstraße 3 in front of the Sinalco -stele, and the former Falkenkrug Brewery tour, meeting at the main entrance inner courtyard, both require registration and have limited participant numbers. The Sinalco AG tour offers an outdoor exploration of the company's history, while the former Falkenkrug Brewery tour takes visitors through the underground ice cellars of the historic brewery.

Many other monuments in Detmold will open their doors during the weekend of Heritage Day, inviting visitors to step back in time and explore the city's rich history. The complete program, including dates, locations, and registration contacts, can be found online on the subpage "Current" of the city portal.

Whether you're a history enthusiast, a family looking for a fun day out, or simply someone interested in learning more about Detmold's past, Heritage Day offers something for everyone. So mark your calendars and join us on September 14 for a day of discovery and celebration.
