The bustling island of Gartenfeld in Berlin is set to undergo significant changes, with several major construction projects underway.

Firstly, the Senate is pushing ahead with the construction of a bridge at Rhenaniastraße. Despite the bridge's importance, as it will house key city cables running under the ramp, access to the boat house path for residents will remain largely guaranteed during the construction period.

In a significant move, the state-owned housing company GEWOBAG will construct 1,200 apartments on Gartenfeld. This is not the only housing development on the island, as another state-owned housing company, HOWOGE, will build a community school for 1,300 students.

The community school on Gartenfeld is designed to be more than just an educational institution. It will serve as an important meeting place and will include a combined site for facilities operated by the Spandau district. The school building, a key project in Berlin's school expansion, is an essential prerequisite for the upcoming residential construction on the island.

Interestingly, the planning and construction of the school building on Insel Gartenfeld is not explicitly named in the search results. However, the architectural practice Gernot Schulz Architektur, known for school construction projects in Germany, is rumoured to be involved in this specific project.

The housing cooperative begeno16 eG, responsible for the residential quarter "WIR", has sold its project on the island of Gartenfeld to the planning community OIB/GEWOBAG. This sale marks the beginning of the first construction projects on the island.

It's worth noting that the original plan for the bridge at Rhenaniastraße included a tram line. However, the bridge, set to start construction this year, will not be opened for car traffic.

These developments on Gartenfeld Island promise to shape the cityscape of Berlin, providing much-needed housing and educational facilities while maintaining a focus on sustainable transportation.
