Commencement of the latest judicial year marked by the prosecutor general's indictment, government's backlash against judges, and the conspicuous absence of Feijóo.

In Spain, the upcoming judicial year is expected to be intense, with several open cases affecting politicians, parties, or their personal and family environments. The traditional opening of the judicial year will take place this Friday at 12:00 noon in the Plenary Hall of the Supreme Court.

The act will be chaired by King Felipe VI, and interventions will be made by the President of the General Council of the Judicial Power (CGPJ) and the Attorney General of the State. However, controversy surrounds the presence of Attorney General Álvaro García Ortiz, who is under investigation and is one step away from sitting in the dock.

García Ortiz is accused of a suspected crime of revealing secrets in the case of Alberto González Amador. Amador, the boyfriend of Madrid's regional president, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, is one step away from sitting in the dock for tax fraud and document forgery, although he has appealed his indictment.

The majority of associations of judges and prosecutors have carried out different mobilizations against the reform of the law of the Judicial Power and the Organic Statute of the Ministry of Justice. The Government-approved review of the Organic Law of the Judicial Power passed its first examination in June in Congress.

The criticisms of President Sánchez towards the judiciary in an interview on TVE are generating unrest among the judiciary. Three out of the four associations of judges are upset with the statements made by President Sánchez, and the opposition shares this sentiment. The Professional Association of Magistrates (APM), the Association of Prosecutors (AF), and the Independent Professional Association of Prosecutors (APIF) have shown their "rejection" of the presence of García Ortiz in the opening of the Judicial Year.

The investigation against Begonia Gómez, the wife of the President of the Government, for alleged crimes of embezzlement, influence peddling, corruption in business, misappropriation of funds, and practicing without a license, is ongoing. The CGPJ has to rule on the complaints presented by Bolaños against Judge Juan Carlos Peinado for the interrogation he made as a witness in the case of Begonia Gómez.

Meanwhile, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, the leader of the PP, has confirmed that he will not attend the opening of the judicial year due to the intervention of the Attorney General of the State. The former Valencian councillor Salomé Pradas has presented a complaint against the judge who is investigating the management of the damage.

The Attorney General's Office is generating discomfort among part of the judiciary. García Ortiz warns of the danger of treating minors as "merchandise" by "sowing seeds of hatred." He also faces up to six years in prison and between four and 12 years of disqualification.

The upcoming judicial year will also see the resolution of the habeas corpus appeal of the former Catalan president Carles Puigdemont and his former 'number two' in the Government, Oriol Junqueras, by the Constitutional Court. The Supreme Court has not applied the amnesty law to them. The Koldo case continues to affect the former secretary of Organization of the PSOE, Santos Cerdán, and the former minister, José Luis Ábalos.

As the judicial year unfolds, Spain's legal landscape will be closely watched, with many high-profile cases expected to reach their conclusion.
