In the city of Gießen, a significant initiative has been launched to provide comprehensive care and support for victims of sexual violence. The city, one of the 14 model cities in Hesse, is participating in the project of the Frankfurt Women's Emergency Call e.V.

The unique aspect of this project lies in its approach to evidence collection. Victims can anonymously have evidence secured within the framework of medical care, offering them a chance to create some distance before potentially filing a complaint. This evidence is stored for one year, and only when a complaint is filed is it handed over to the police for use in investigations.

The University Clinics of Gießen and Marburg, along with the Forensic Institute at the Institute of Legal Medicine, are responsible for the medical care and evidence preservation after acts of sexual violence. It's important to note that the medical care within this project remains fundamentally confidential, with neither the hospital nor a counseling center able to file a complaint against the victim's will.

The Women's and Equal Opportunities Offices of the City of Gießen are involved in the project, ensuring a coordinated approach to the care and support provided to victims. The intervention center against domestic violence of SKF e.V., Pro Familia Gießen e.V., the Gießen Help e.V., and Wildwasser take over the psychological and social care of the victims.

The pharmacy at Ludwigsplatz is also cooperating in providing medication as needed for victims of sexual violence.

Starting in September, a Gießen city bus will display a poster about the "Medical Immediate Help After Sexual Assault" project, aiming to raise awareness about this vital service. The action month of November will see further actions within the program to emphasize the International Day against Violence, reminding everyone that sexual violence is never the fault of the victim. The responsibility for sexual violence always lies with the perpetrator, regardless of the victim's clothing, appearance, or behavior.

This initiative is supported by the Hessian Ministry of Labour, Integration, Youth & Social Affairs, underscoring the importance of such projects in addressing the issue of sexual violence.

Frankfurt am Main, the city where the Frankfurt Women's Emergency Call e.V. project originated, is also participating alongside Gießen and 13 other cities in Hesse. This initiative involves cooperation with the Institute of Forensic Medicine at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University Hospital Frankfurt and various hospitals and counseling centers in the city.

The city of Gießen's involvement in this project is a testament to its commitment to providing a safe and supportive environment for all its residents.
