Commission to Gather Further Insights on the Execution of the Programme's Progress

In the heart of Germany, the 49th Leipzig Jazz Days will host a significant event, challenging one of the European Union's central achievements: freedom of movement, as internal border controls have returned across Europe. Despite this, the arts continue to play a pivotal role in shaping lifestyles, tourist attractions, and fostering European identity.

The highlight of this year's event is the jazz trio Karja/Renard/Wandinger, a musical embodiment of pan-European understanding. Consisting of Kirke Karja (piano, Estonia), Γ‰tienne Renard (bass, France), and Ludwig Wandinger (drums, Germany), this talented ensemble will take the stage at UT Connewitz.

The trio started playing together in 2019 and released their dynamic debut album "The Wrong Needle" in summer 2022. Following their performance, Madli Pesti, a senior researcher at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre, will moderate a discussion. The conversation will explore how pan-European art production has changed since February 2022, providing an insightful perspective on the impact of recent events on the arts.

Madli Pesti, an Estonian theater researcher and critic, has studied at several universities and holds a PhD in theater research. She has been actively involved in the arts scene, particularly in the "Danger / Danger / Oht" event organised in October 2021 through a collaboration between Politik im Freien Theater festival and Jazzclub Leipzig e.V.

Ticket prices for the event are 15 Euro for regular admission and 10 Euro for reduced admission (plus advance booking fees). Box office tickets will cost 18 Euro for regular admission and 13 Euro for reduced admission. The presale for tickets is expected to start mid-September via Leipzig Jazz Days.

The arts, particularly music, theater, and performance practices, promote exchange, coexistence, and mutual understanding, despite national differences. This event, which will be held in English, is no exception. It promises to be an enlightening and engaging experience for all attendees.

It's important to note that the attack on Ukraine by Russia in 2022 has significantly affected the political landscape of Europe, leading to discussions about rearmament, deterrence, and security. However, the event aims to focus on the power of art to bridge divides and foster understanding, reminding us of the importance of cultural exchange in these challenging times.

So, come join us at Leipzig Jazz Days and witness the captivating performance by Karja/Renard/Wandinger, followed by an insightful discussion moderated by Madli Pesti. Let's celebrate the resilience of art and its ability to unite us, despite the challenges we face.
