A Churnin' Sum at Casino Bad Homburg

Bad Homburg's Casino raked in a whopping 58 million Euros in 2024, trumping all previous years - as confirmed by the SĂźddeutsche Zeitung. These jaw-dropping figures come from a press release by the German Press Agency.

Dynamic CEO Lutz Schenkel shared some juicy insights. Averaging 650 daily visitors, the historic spot attracts a diverse crowd, with a significant number of young folks strutting in, eager to lap up the casino experience. On weekends, the place is jam-packed, hitting capacity limits. With around 230 staff members on board, it's a busy beehive, offering classic games like roulette and blackjack alongside slot machines.

Here's some intriguing turn-of-the-century nostalgia: Bad Homburg's casino is slated to bankroll a renovation of the deteriorating Kurhaus. Instead of dipping into public funds, the city plans on Al Capone-ing it, using the casino's lease payments to finance the endeavor.

The proposed plan? Demolition instead of renovation. The '80s-era Kurhaus is outdated, falling short on both aesthetics and safety. The refreshed structure will offer the casino more space, enough room for around 50 new slot machines. This upgrade could potentially boost the annual earnings by approximately 13 million Euros.

As early as the 19th century, the casino was a significant player in funding the initial Kurhaus. By moving back into a modern Kurhaus, it's like history repeating itself.

Casino Wiesbaden has its dice loaded on classic games too. Andreas Krautwald, the CEO of Casino Wiesbaden, insists on preserving the traditional casino area, blending it with state-of-the-art tech to keep the gaming market dynamic and thriving.

True, classic games might not hold the top earner title, but slot machines reign in Bad Homburg, generating approximately 90% of the revenue. That leaves only 10% for classic table games.

For Holger Reuter, the Kurdirector, Casino Bad Homburg, established in 1841 by the businessman François Blanc, plays a pivotal role in the city's identity and economic growth:

Despite the staggering success, the casino remains vigilant about problem gambling. Informative brochures about compulsive gambling are available at the casino entrance, and at-risk players are offered preventive chats. Some guests even choose to self-ban, as stated by Schenkel.

The personnel's personal touch helps in spotting at-risk players promptly. Notably, croupiers in the classic game aren't formally trained but go through internal training, with a little task called 'player-be-thyself.'

In Schenkel's opinion, online casinos pose a riskier challenge, with their veil of anonymity making early intervention trickier.

Wiesbaden Casino's future hangs in the balance. While Bad Homburg's license stays valid until 2037, Wiesbaden is on the clock - its license expires at the end of 2025. The city administration is already cooking up plans for a re-tendering process, with talks involving gambling powerhouse Novomatic circling the rumor mill. A grand summit in the summer of 2025 is expected, aiming for a smooth transition.
