Competition at Clam Harbor Beach's Sandcastle Event called off due to lack of moisture in the sand
The 45th annual Clam Harbour Beach Sandcastle Competition, a much-anticipated event in the Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM), has been cancelled due to dry conditions and concerns for public safety.
Organised by the HRM, the event typically attracts around 10,000 people. However, this year, the continued dry conditions have been determined as a high risk for the safety of the Sandcastle Competition by municipal staff.
The decision to cancel the event was not taken lightly. It was made due to concerns for residents' safety, especially considering that no immediate rain is forecasted, which has contributed to the high risk.
The single lane access road to the beach was a factor in the cancellation decision, but the beach itself remains accessible. The Clam Harbour Beach, despite the cancellation of the Sandcastle Competition, remains open to the public.
The HRM has reminded visitors that the woods ban within the Clam Harbour Provincial Park remains in effect. The surrounding wooded park area within the Clam Harbour Provincial Park is closed in accordance with the province's woods ban, which was put in place earlier this month.
The Sandcastle Competition is an annual tradition, attracting locals and tourists alike. The cancellation of the event does not affect the public's access to the beach.
For more information, residents and visitors can refer to the dedicated provincial page for Nova Scotia news. The HRM encourages everyone to prioritise safety and enjoy the beautiful Clam Harbour Beach responsibly.
