Construction obstacles causing schedule pushback for the new town hall meeting
In the heart of Obertshausen, the highly anticipated New City Hall project is facing a delay, but progress is still being made. The report, set to be presented to political bodies in the fourth quarter of 2025, aims to shed light on the project's progress, provide reasons for the delay, and outline the next steps.
The delay is primarily due to unforeseen construction challenges during the renovation process. Static and technical issues emerged after the gutting of the existing building, necessitating additional construction measures to address these issues. Coordination and handoffs between project partners were more complex than initially expected, further contributing to the time shifts.
The change of ownership during the project phase also played a role in the delay. Despite these challenges, the measures under the city's responsibility are still within the planned timeframe.
The company responsible for the renovation, construction, and demolition of the New City Hall, as well as the construction of a parking garage, is Wolff & Müller. The project officially began with the contract signing on July 9, 2025, and construction is planned from 2026 to 2028. Preparations for new wall positions in the building have recently begun on the construction site.
Melissa Kemmerling, the project management for the New City Hall, confirmed that the city's preparations for future occupancy are proceeding as planned. This includes digitization, the introduction of e-files, and the organizational and technical equipment of the new workspace.
Mayor Frank Stein remains committed to creating a modern, digital, and citizen-friendly administrative hub with the New City Hall. He emphasizes that unforeseen developments are common in projects of this size and complexity. The New City Hall's handover has been delayed from December 1, 2025, to mid-September 2026.
Despite the delay, Mayor Stein looks forward to the perspectives and developments this project will bring to the city. He has informed the city of the delay, and the landlord has followed suit. The mayor encourages the citizens of Obertshausen to stay informed and excited about the progress of this significant project.
