UR Medicine Expands Orthopaedics Services with New $240 Million Centre

UR Medicine is set to expand its orthopaedic services with the construction of a new $240 million Orthopaedics & Physical Performance Centre at The Marketplace Mall in Henrietta. The project, first announced in November 2019, will create one of the largest and most comprehensive ambulatory orthopaedics facilities in the United States by 2023.

The former Sears building at The Marketplace Mall will be repurposed as the surgery centre, scheduled to open in 2022. Using the existing structure as the shell significantly reduces project costs and shaves as much as a year off the construction timeline. Above the surgery centre, LeChase Construction will build an all-new multi-story patient care tower with diagnostic imaging, clinic space, and other patient services, scheduled for completion in 2023.

The new centre will be nearly three times the size of UR Medicine's largest orthopaedic outpatient facility at Clinton Crossings. It will combine ambulatory surgery and other essential services in one convenient spot, providing patients and visitors with easy access to shopping, restaurants, and other amenities at The Marketplace Mall.

The project will create more than 300 construction jobs at LeChase and generate business for local construction supply firms. Approximately 100 support and patient care staff are set to move into offices at the centre later this year. UR Medicine Orthopaedics plans to retain its other suburban locations, including those in Victor, Webster, Greece, and Penfield.

The new campus will meet the guidelines for LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), a globally recognized sustainability certification. LEED-compliant structures are energy- and water-efficient, reducing waste, lowering environmental impact, and operating costs.

UR Medicine is expanding to meet current and future patient demand for musculoskeletal services for patients of all ages. Over the past seven years, the company has seen a 25 percent increase in orthopaedic surgery cases and a 60 percent increase in ambulatory visits. The project site at The Marketplace Mall, previously the location of Sears, offers convenient access for patients due to its proximity to the Thruway, interstate routes, and public transportation.

An editor's note states that the project cost for the UR Medicine Orthopaedics & Physical Performance Centre has been updated to $227 million. The company that will house over 100 employees of the UR Medicine Orthopaedics team in offices on the new campus is not explicitly named in the provided search results.

The Orthopaedics & Physical Performance Centre will be a significant addition to UR Medicine's services, offering comprehensive orthopaedic care in a convenient, sustainable, and patient-friendly environment.
