Construction of asphalt repairs at Graf-Wilhelm-Plaza: detours and closures in effect
In the heart of Solingen, the City Administration has announced a temporary road closure and bus diversion due to necessary repairs at bus stops 4 and 5 at Graf-Wilhelm-Platz.
Starting from Wednesday, August 7, individual traffic on Kölner Straße from Blumenstraße will be closed for three days, and again from August 14 to August 16. During these closures, vehicles will be redirected towards Augustastraße.
The reason for these disruptions is the repair of the asphalt at the bus stops in question, which needs time to cool after the fresh asphalt has been laid. Due to the high frequency of bus lines, delays may occur during these times.
To ensure a smooth transition, traffic wardens will be present at the Blumenstraße entrance during the day during these closures. Warning signs will also be posted at Konrad-Adenauer-Straße to alert drivers of the roadwork.
In a unique twist, buses will use the neighboring bus stop from August 7 to August 9 and from August 14 to August 16, instead of the usual stops at bus stops 4 and 5.
It appears that this is not an isolated incident, as a search reveals that Solingen has experienced similar traffic regulations affecting buses during the summer holidays in the past, though specific details of the exact location or road affected were not provided.
The road maintenance department of the Technical Operations of Solingen (TBS) is responsible for carrying out these repairs. The TBS has chosen to conduct the repairs during the summer holidays to minimise disruption to the daily commute.
We advise drivers to plan their journeys accordingly and to exercise caution during these times. We will keep you updated on any further developments.
