Construction of modules initiated for approximately 40 kids: progress underway
In the heart of Cappel, a bustling district in Marburg, the site between Reinhardswaldstraße and Burgwaldstraße, along Moischter Straße, is set to witness a significant change. The city council has decided to construct an interim building to accommodate two kindergarten groups from the former Kita Goldberg.
The interim construction, with external dimensions of 26 by 15 meters, is expected to be completed by the end of the year, provided that construction proceeds smoothly. This temporary structure will be constructed using steel modules, a choice that offers the advantage of reusability once the new building for the former Kita Goldberg is ready for occupancy.
The construction process includes a pull test for the interim building's stability, earthworks with the use of an excavator and truck, and the installation of screw foundations. If soil conditions allow, these screw foundations may be reused when the modules are rebuilt. Gravel pads will be created as a base for cornerstones during the earthworks process.
The interim construction commenced on the football pitch in Cappel and is intended to provide space for around 40 children. The sports field can continue to be used with restrictions during the interim and subsequent new construction. The property is large enough to accommodate both the kindergarten and the sports field once the interim building is dismantled.
Dr. Michael Kopatz, councilor, expressed his appreciation for the reusable nature of the steel modules. He stated, "The steel modules of the interim building being reusable is especially advantageous."
The total cost of the interim building is approximately 1.7 million euros. The architectural firm or construction company responsible for building the temporary modular building for the former Kita Goldberg in Cappel has not been publicly specified.
Outdoor facilities, including access, escape routes, recreational and play areas, parking spaces, and more, will be created parallel to the interior construction. The modules are planned to be set up on the Cappel site by the fourth quarter of the year. Screw foundations are scheduled to be installed by mid-September and will be removed after the modules are dismantled.
Once the new six-group kindergarten is built permanently on this municipal area, it will help address the demand for childcare places in Marburg's southern district. The city council's decision to build an interim building before the new building is completed is a testament to their commitment to providing quality early education facilities for the children of Cappel.
