Construction preparations underway for the school building at DBG
In the city of Bergisch Gladbach, construction work has begun on a new interim classroom building for the Dietrich-Bonhoeffer-Gymnasium (DBG). The project, relying on regional construction companies, aims to create urgently needed school space for up to 15 years.
Alexandra Meuthen, head of the building department of the city of Bergisch Gladbach, made a statement about the project. She emphasized the goal of minimizing noise pollution during construction, compared to conventional and long-lasting raw construction measures.
The modular wooden building, planned to be ready for occupancy by the start of the new school year in summer 2026, will be erected using a serial modular construction method with an ambitious schedule. The construction work, already underway on the grounds of the Jan Wellem sports club, is expected to be completed in a few weeks.
Sebastian Rolko, managing director of SBGL, explained that the goal is to build a fully functional, modern building in a short time. The use of wooden construction for the building is not only visually appealing but also ensures a modern and up-to-date construction process.
The interim classroom building will be constructed entirely of wood, with only the foundations made of concrete. This innovative approach is part of SBGL's strategy, which they have successfully implemented in other projects within the city.
SBGL thanks the Jan Wellem sports club, city administration, political decision-makers, and all those involved for their constructive cooperation and trust in the timely implementation of the project. They have coordinated with the responsible authority for tree felling, which was necessary as part of the preparatory measures, and have assured that the felled trees will be compensated by replanting.
However, the construction of the building will result in increased truck traffic and temporary traffic disruptions during delivery phases. The city administration had previously contacted the adjacent sports club to find a suitable site for the interim building, ensuring minimal impact on the local community.
