The Hamburg Police Department recently concluded its traffic safety campaign, "Operation Safe Holiday," which took place from July 1, 2025, to August 31, 2025, in the Hamburg City Area. The campaign, led by the Traffic Directorate South (VD 4), aimed to increase safety on Hamburg's roads and raise awareness among motorists.
During the operation, a total of 190 vehicles, including motorhomes and caravans, were checked. The focus was particularly on these types of vehicles due to the increased usage during holiday seasons. Noteworthy findings included 14 cases of overloading, for which proceedings for administrative offenses were initiated.
In addition to these checks, the Traffic Directorate 1 (Traffic Monitoring) conducted targeted speed checks at complaint sites and accident hotspots. Over 32,748 vehicles were measured, resulting in 2,183 speeding offenses being detected.
The Hamburg Police Department also organised a traditional prevention event where drivers could have their vehicles and trailers weighed for free. Experts from the traffic directorate provided information on how to secure loads correctly during the event.
Two criminal proceedings were initiated for suspected driving without a license during the focus checks. Furthermore, four defect reports were drawn up due to missing documents or technical defects on the vehicles.

It is worth mentioning that the Traffic Directorate 1 (Traffic Monitoring) did not participate in the "Operation Safe Holiday" action. However, they continued their regular duties, conducting speed checks at complaint sites and accident hotspots, as they do daily.
The Hamburg Police Department will continue to conduct similar checks in the future to ensure the safety of Hamburg's roads and to educate motorists on safe driving practices. The head of the Verkehrsdirektorat SΓΌd (VD 4) during the "Operation Safe Holiday" in Hamburg in 2025 was Enno Treumann.
In 366 cases, drivers can expect the registration of at least one point in their driving record, and 15 of them face a minimum one-month driving ban. In 17 cases, further travel was prohibited due to violations found during the checks.
The information in this article was originally transmitted by the Hamburg Police Department via news aktuell. The officers from VD 6 (Traffic Education and Prevention) supported the focus checks by conducting prevention talks and distributing themed information material.
The Hamburg Police Department is committed to maintaining safe roads for all citizens and visitors, and campaigns like "Operation Safe Holiday" are a testament to their dedication to this cause.
