Hamburg Police Crack Down on Speeding Violations
In a bid to enhance safety on Hamburg's roads and raise awareness among road users, the Hamburg Police conducted a traffic safety action on 09.04.2025. The action, led by Traffic Directorate 1, was part of the European-wide police network ROADPOL and saw the participation of approximately 270 police officers.
The focus of the action was on monitoring "speed". Over 720 people were checked during the action, which took place in the Hamburg city area from 06:00 to 22:00. The use of speed monitoring devices led to an additional 1,708 speeding offenses.
One driver, in the area of Falkenbergsweg in the Hamburg district of Neugraben-Fischbek, was caught traveling at 69 km/h in a 30 km/h zone. The offender now faces a fine of approximately €288, a one-month driving ban, and two points on his driving record.
Another notable incident occurred on the A1 near the Moorfleet tunnel where a 21-year-old driver of a VW Polo was caught driving at 189 km/h in a 80 km/h zone. The offender faces a three-month driving ban, two points on his driving record, and a fine of approximately €738.
Monitoring speed is a permanent part of Hamburg Police's traffic safety work. However, the disregard for speed limits remains one of the most common causes of accidents. The police issued 49 defect reports due to technical issues or missing documents during the action.
It's worth noting that criminal offenses were penalized during the action. The search results do not provide information about the responsible person for traffic safety work (Verkehrssicherheitsarbeit) of the Hamburg Police during the described period.
The Hamburg Police will continue to conduct checks to increase safety on Hamburg's roads and raise awareness among road users. The public is reminded to adhere to speed limits and drive responsibly for the safety of all road users.
