The Jewish Cultural Festival, taking place from September 4 to 7, is set to be a vibrant celebration of Jewish culture across various venues. One of the highlights of the festival is the concert by contemporary jazz bassist Avishai Cohen and his band The Hebrew Book, scheduled for September 6 at Osnabrückhalle.

Avishai Cohen, ranked among the most influential instrumentalists of the 20th century by Bassplayer Magazine, is known for his virtuosic compositions and ability to create extraordinary musical tension. His international breakthrough came in 1998 with his first solo album, Adama.

After completing his education at the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music, Cohen moved to New York in 1992. Initially working as a day laborer and street musician, Cohen's hard work paid off, leading to collaborations with notable musicians such as Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, and Bobby McFerrin.

Cohen's latest album, Brightlight (2024), features original compositions and jazz standards. For the Jewish Cultural Festival concert, Cohen will present an exclusive program consisting of classics and newer pieces from his over 30-year career.

The band members of The Hebrew Book include Itay Shimovich (piano), Eviatar Slivnik (drums), Yonathan Voltzok (trombone), Marc Kakon (guitar), and Yuval Drabkin (saxophone).

Avishai Cohen is not only a talented musician but also a supporter of young talents. He has invited many up-and-coming artists to his album recordings.
