Contest Invitation: Essay Competition for Cyber Policy Proposals
The Army Cyber Institute, in collaboration with the Competition in Cyberspace Project, is hosting an essay contest that invites participants from any field, including non-US residents, to submit their thoughts on a pressing issue in military cyber operations. The contest is open until 11:59 PM EDT on April 1, 2022, and the topic is inspired by the Cyberspace Solarium Commission Report, which highlights the long-standing issue of policy and legal constraints hindering US cyber forces.
Rules and Guidelines
- Co-authorship of essays is allowed, with a maximum of two authors per entry.
- Each participant may submit only one entry to the competition.
- Submissions should follow the standard submission guidelines for the Army Cyber Institute's website.
- Essays must answer the question: "What is the greatest policy challenge affecting US military cyber operations over the next five years? And what should we do about it?"
- Essays must be original, unpublished, and not intended for publication elsewhere.
- Emails should be sent to [email protected] with "Cyber Policy Challenge Essay Contest" in the subject line.
- Submissions must be less than 2,500 words in length.
- Include author bio(s) of two to three sentences in the email submission.
- No edits, corrections, or changes are allowed once an essay is submitted.
- Submissions will be reviewed and evaluated based on creativity, thoughtful analysis, potential for improvement of US cyber operations, understanding of current and future technological capabilities, application of historical lessons, and suitability for publication by the Army Cyber Institute's website.
Prizes
The top three essays will be announced publicly and published by the Army Cyber Institute's website. Winners may also be given the opportunity to expand on their essay for publication in the Army Cyber Institute's Cyber Defense Review. Revisions may be required before publication.
