In a closely contested Bundesliga top game, SC Magdeburg emerged victorious against a struggling SG Berlin, securing a 39-32 victory. The Berliners, who have been in turmoil following the unprecedented double dismissal of sports director Stefan Kretzschmar and coach Jaron Siewert, put up a dismal performance.

The newly appointed coach, Nicolej Krickau, faced his forgettable debut against SC Magdeburg, shortly after taking over from Jaron Siewert. Despite the team's efforts, they found themselves trailing by 12 goals at one point during the second half.

SCM fans celebrated their victory, referring to themselves as "leaders," while their counterparts in Berlin continued to boo throughout the game. The Berliners struggled with missed shots and passes, which Magdeburg capitalised on, exploiting the weak defensive behaviour of the home team.

Lukas Mertens of SCM spoke highly of his team's performance, referring to it as "extremely great." Conversely, Berlin player Mathias Gidsel was weak in finishing, and Fabian Wiede expressed frustration after the game, stating, "It's extremely bitter today. It felt worse than the result suggests."

Before the game, Stefan Kretzschmar had called on the Berlin fans to stand united behind the team. However, during the match, chants for the fired coach, Jaron Siewert, could be heard from the stands.

SCM coach Bennet Wiegert was content with his team's performance, stating, "We did our job, that makes us want more." In contrast, In the guests' goal, Sergey Hernández stood out, making nine saves by halftime.

The defeat marked a challenging start for the new management team in Berlin. Bob Hanning, who made the decision to dismiss Stefan Kretzschmar and Jaron Siewert, expressed that he was "absolutely sure that we made the right decision."

As the game progressed, Magdeburg continued to dominate with strong tempo play. After the restart, Magdeburg temporarily increased their lead to twelve goals. The Berlin handball team will look to regroup and improve ahead of their next game.
