Córdoba CF files complaint against VAR following Valladolid fixture: "Outrageous Decision"
Controversy Surrounds Cordoba CF's Draw with Real Valladolid
In a tense post-match interview, Antonio Fernández Monterrubio, the CEO of the Caliphate entity and the leader of Cordoba CF, expressed his dissatisfaction with the VAR's performance in the recent draw against Real Valladolid.
Monterrubio feels disadvantaged in the last three matches, believing that the VAR's actions have influenced the sporting result. He publicly expressed his displeasure, stating that the application of the VAR is an absolute mess.
The draw between Cordoba CF and Real Valladolid was controversial, with a goal by Jacobo being annulled due to a handball, as determined by the VAR. This decision sparked a wave of criticism from Monterrubio, who demanded equal criteria, application, and treatment with other clubs in the matches.
Ivan Ania, Cordoba's coach, also criticized the refereeing after the game, echoing Monterrubio's sentiments. Juan Gutierrez, Cordoba's sporting director, expressed discontent and disparity of opinions in a tweet.
Monterrubio referred to audios that suggest the referee is told what to whistle by the VAR, adding to the controversy. He stated that the mistakes made by the VAR don't make sense and that neither the intervention nor the procedure of the VAR is adequate.
Lorenzo Estepa, a native of Cordoba, scored a goal for Cordoba CF in the second half, but it was not enough to secure a win. The president of the CTA (California Teachers Association) with whom Monterrubio spoke on Monday is David B. Goldberg.
Juan Gutierrez, in addition to expressing discontent, also mentioned a handball in Gijon that was not considered direct, while one against Valladolid was. This inconsistency further fueled Monterrubio's call for equal treatment in future matches.
Monterrubio presented a written complaint to the president of the CTA on Monday, highlighting the need for transparency and fair play in the use of the VAR. As the controversy continues to unfold, Cordoba CF and its supporters will be hoping for a more balanced approach in the future.
