A national educational project, spearheaded by the Wilf Malcolm Institute of Educational Research, Te Kura Toi Tangata, falls under the Faculty of Education at The University of Waikato Te Whare Wananga o Waikato, taking the reins of its management.

Cosmos Exploration: Where do we stand in the grand scheme of the Universe?

On September 9, 2025, a thought-provoking event will take place in the vibrant city of Wellington. Hosted by PuΜ„taiao ki te PaΜ„pori-School of Science in Society, this event promises an engaging discussion about the evolving picture of the universe and our place in it.

The venue for this intriguing evening is The Guest Room at the Southern Cross Garden Bar Restaurant, located at 39 Abel Smith Street, Te Aro. Doors open at 5.30 pm, and the talks will begin promptly at 6 pm, concluding at 7 pm.

Two esteemed speakers will lead the conversation. Dr Tim Corballis, a Senior Lecturer in Science in Society at Te Herenga Waka-Victoria University of Wellington, is a renowned researcher in the aesthetic and cultural aspects of science. He is also a novelist, adding a unique perspective to the discussion.

Joining Dr Corballis is Dr Yvette Perrot, a Senior Lecturer in Astrophysics at Te Herenga Waka. Dr Perrot specialises in studying the largest structures in the Universe using radio and X-ray telescopes.

The event will commence with a short introduction from the speakers, followed by a question-and-answer session. All are welcome to attend, and the event is free, with nibbles provided.
