Council takes action to construct Loddenheide railway station
The city of Münster has made a significant announcement regarding the reactivation of the WLE line, a key component in improving public transport connections between the Münsterland region and the city of Münster. The city council has decided to build the WLE railway station Loddenheide, marking a significant step towards the mobility transition.
The four remaining stops along the WLE line - Halle Münsterland, Gremmendorf, Angelmodde, and Wolbeck - will be built behind the cinema Cineplex (Halle Münsterland), on the Gremmendorfer Weg (Gremmendorf), on the Angelstraße (Angelmodde), and on the Hiltruper Straße (Wolbeck). The reactivation project, handled by the Westphalian State Railway GmbH (WLE), also includes the construction of a two-track station with a central platform at the Loddenheide railway station.
To facilitate seamless integration of rail traffic with bus, bike, and pedestrian traffic, an adjacent mobility station will be built at the Loddenheide station. This station will also feature a covered "Leezebox" with 120 bike parking spaces, as well as additional areas for parking cargo bikes, e-scooters, or rental bikes. A total of 40 bike racks will be created, accommodating 80 bicycles.
The railway station Loddenheide will be located on Albersloher Weg, between Martin-Luther-King-Weg and the street "An den Loddenbüschen". Construction work for this revitalisation project is expected to begin at the start of 2026 and be completed by mid-2027.
The public transport company responsible for the reactivation of the railway line between Münster and Sendenhorst is the operator planned within the S-Bahn Münsterland project. This ambitious project aims to integrate this line into the new S-Bahn network by around 2030, with participation from Deutsche Bahn and local authorities.
The goal of this revitalisation project is to significantly increase the share of environmentally friendly traffic in the urban area of Münster and the Münsterland region. By providing modern, accessible, and eco-friendly transport options, the city of Münster is taking a proactive step towards a greener future.
