The 77th Creative Arts Emmy Awards: A Celebration of Television Excellence
The Television Academy held its 77th Creative Arts Emmy Awards over the weekend, honouring exceptional achievements in television production. The event, spread across two nights, saw a host of notable personalities presenting awards and celebrating the winners.
On the first night, the ceremony was hosted by stand-up comedian and actor Nate Bargatze. A diverse group of presenters, including Ali Ahn, Malin Akerman, Nikki Boyer, Gwendoline Christie, Jamie Lee Curtis, Rhenzy Feliz, Shawn Hatosy, Robby Hoffman, Mikaela Hoover, Ron Howard, Katherine LaNasa, Justine Lupe, Kelly Mantle, Trixie Mattel, Kevin Miles, Daryl "Chill" Mitchell, Craig Robinson, Anika Noni Rose, Theo Rossi, Maya Rudolph, Rhea Seehorn, Sarah Shahi, Timothy Simons, Brittany Snow, Tayme Thapthimthong, Jackie Tohn, Noah Wyle, and Kelvin Yu, graced the stage to announce the winners.
The second night was hosted by another stand-up comedian, Michael Che. The presenting lineup for the second night included Jennifer Affleck, Mikey Day, Nyle DiMarco, Amaya Espinal, Danielle Fishel, Henry Louis Gates Jr., Edwin Lee Gibson, Harvey GuilleΜn, actor David Hoffman, Iris Kendall, Jordan Klepper, Whitney Leavitt, Thomas Lennon, Joe Manganiello, Marlee Matlin, Atsuko Okatsuka, Sarah Silverman, Tanner Smith, Connor Tomlinson, and Ahmir "Questlove" Thompson.
One of the standout winners of the evening was "Andor," the Star Wars spin-off series, which dominated several categories. It won Outstanding Special Visual Effects in a Season or Movie, Outstanding Production Design for a Narrative Period or Fantasy Program (one hour or more), Outstanding Fantasy/Sci-Fi costumes, Outstanding Picture Editing for a Drama Series, and four Creative Arts Emmys in total.
Other notable winners include "Welcome to Wrexham," a documentary series about the ownership of a football club by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, which won Outstanding Picture Editing for an Unstructured Reality Program and Outstanding Sound Mixing For a Reality Program. "Jeopardy!" took home the Outstanding Game Show Emmy, while "Beatles '64" won Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Nonfiction Program.
"Music By John Williams" on Disney+ won the award for Outstanding Sound Editing for a Nonfiction or Reality program, and "Patrice: The Movie" took home the Exceptional Merit in Documentary Filmmaking award. The Walt Disney Company, the parent company of this ABC station, also won some awards. Notably, Jimmy Kimmel won a Creative Arts Emmy for Outstanding Host for a Game Show for "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire."
An edited presentation of both night's ceremonies will air on FXX on Saturday, September 13, and will be available to stream on Hulu through October 7. The main Emmy Awards ceremony will be handed out on September 14. The 77th Emmys promise to be a celebration of the best in television, with "Andor" leading the charge.
