Cristiano Ronaldo Faced Threat to Leave World Cup Team Following Bench, Reaction from Portugal Federation Given

In the upcoming quarter-final match of the World Cup tournament in Qatar, Portugal will face Morocco on Saturday. The Portuguese national team, led by coach Fernando Santos, has been making headlines due to the uncertain participation of their star player, Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo, the most-capped Portuguese player and the top men's transnational goalscorer of all time, has not started in any of the knockout rounds so far. After the team's victory against Switzerland, he was benched for the last 16 clash. However, his appearance in the game was a further demonstration of his commitment to the team.

Following the game against Switzerland, Ronaldo participated in a spa session alongside the starters, suggesting he may not be fully fit for the quarter-final match. On the contrary, he did not train with the backups on Wednesday, instead choosing to rest and recover.

Amidst these speculations, the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) has denied that Ronaldo considered abandoning the World Cup team. They also stated that at no time did Ronaldo express a desire to leave the team during their stay in Qatar.

In the absence of Ronaldo, Goncalo Ramos, who scored a hat-trick in the match against Switzerland, may start the match against Morocco. Ramos replaced Ronaldo during the game and his impressive performance has raised hopes for the upcoming match.

Ramos' potential start in place of Ronaldo is not the only change in the Portuguese squad. The quarter-final match will mark Sergio Ramos' potential second start in place of Ronaldo, as he has been filling in admirably during the tournament.

As the World Cup tournament continues, the focus remains on Portugal's star player, Cristiano Ronaldo, and his fitness for the crucial quarter-final match against Morocco. Despite the uncertainty, the team's performance against Switzerland has shown that they have the depth and talent to compete at the highest level.
