Criticism levied against Merkel's schedule by the FDP
In a recent appearance on the German television news program, RTL/ntv's "Early Start," Konstantin Kuhle, the interior policy spokesman of the Free Democratic Party (FDP) parliamentary group, expressed his views on Chancellor Angela Merkel's approach to the coronavirus crisis.
Kuhle noted a "great fatigue effect" in Merkel's approach and criticised her for neglecting communication tasks during the crisis. He finds it wrong that Merkel's government statement on the corona measures is scheduled for the day after the conference with the federal states, and believes that the debate regarding the statement should take place in the Bundestag before its delivery.
Kuhle also criticised Merkel for not involving the citizens enough in the corona measures and for not communicating effectively in recent weeks and months. However, he emphasised that his criticism does not affect his belief in the importance of well-organised administrative work or his membership in the FDP.
Despite Kuhle's criticism, the scheduled delivery of Merkel's government statement on the corona measures remains unchanged. The Chancellor is set to deliver her statement on the following Thursday. The conference with the federal states takes place before the delivery of the statement.
It should be noted that as of now, there is no specific information available about the representative of the German government who will deliver the government statement on COVID-19 measures before the German Bundestag, should Chancellor Merkel decide not to participate on Thursday, November 26.
Merkel, as perceived by Kuhle, is convinced of her actions in the crisis. This criticism of Merkel's communication approach was just one of the topics discussed on the RTL/ntv show "Early Start." The show also focused on the upcoming delivery of Merkel's government statement and the corona measures in general.
