Critique by Mayor Jürgen Kleine-Frauns Regarding the Article 'Daring Game with Citizens' Reliance'

Lünen Mayor Responds to Critical Commentary

Mayor Jürgen Kleine-Frauns of Lünen has responded to a commentary titled "Risky Game with Citizen Trust," which was published in the Ruhr Nachrichten, Lünen edition on 29th August 2025.

In his response, Mayor Kleine-Frauns emphasised the importance of critical reporting and strong opinions, but stressed that they must be based on correct facts. He pointed out that the commentary contained a significant error regarding his role within the city administration.

The error in question concerned the statement that Mayor Kleine-Frauns is acting in a temporary capacity after the municipal election. The mayor clarified that this is factually incorrect, stating that he remains in office until the end of his term on 31st October 2025.

Mayor Kleine-Frauns further highlighted the need for planning security and the ability for the administration to act, particularly for clubs, schools, and providers of social services. He expressed that promising things to the people of Lünen that politics cannot keep after the election, either by not fulfilling them at all or only through tax increases, would be a form of electoral fraud.

Leaving the city without a passed budget, according to Mayor Kleine-Frauns, would be irresponsible. He is ensuring that planning security and the ability for the administration to act are maintained until the last day of his term.

The mayor's response was made on 1st September 2025, and it was made by the mayor of Lünen, Jürgen Kleine-Frauns. It is important to note that the current mayor of Lünen, who will leave office on October 31, 2025, is Martina Adam.

Mayor Kleine-Frauns' responsibility does not end on election day, but only with the end of his term on 31st October 2025. He is fulfilling his responsibilities as the incumbent mayor, ensuring a smooth transition for the incoming administration and maintaining the stability of the city until his term ends.
