In a significant development, the President of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, along with a high-level Cuban delegation, arrived in Vietnam on August 31, 2025. The visit, which was at the invitation of First Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee, Tô Lâm, is expected to further strengthen the bilateral relations between the two nations.

Nguyen Xuan Thang, a Politburo member, Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council, and President of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, warmly welcomed the Cuban leader at Nội Bài International Airport in Hà Nội. This visit is a testament to the enduring solidarity between Vietnam and Cuba, a relationship that has withstood the test of time for 65 years.

The relationship between Vietnam and Cuba, founded by President Ho Chi Minh, Jose Marti, and Fidel Castro, has been nurtured through frequent exchanges of high-level delegations. One of the historic milestones was the state visit to Cuba in September 2024 by Party General Secretary and State President Tô Lâm, which opened up a new chapter in the special relationship.

The partnership between Vietnam and Cuba extends well beyond commercial interests. It is built across three pillars: politics, diplomacy, economy - trade - investment, and people-to-people exchange. The visit of the Cuban delegation is contributing to joint efforts for peace, stability, cooperation, and development in the region and the world.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Đặng Hoàng Giang stated that the traditional solidarity, special friendship, and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cuba have served as a beacon for international relations. He affirmed that the visit underscores the enduring solidarity between Vietnam and Cuba as a guiding beacon for collaboration in the interests of both nations.

The Cuban delegation, which includes Politburo members, party, state and government officials, representatives from ministries, youth communist organizations, mass organizations, and the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), will attend a ceremony marking the 80th anniversary of August Revolution and Việt Nam's National Day on September 2 in Hà Nội.

Recently, Vietnam launched a nationwide campaign to raise funds for the Cuban people on the occasion of the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Year and the 65th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties. The visit of Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez and his spouse to Vietnam is once again underscoring the enduring solidarity between the two nations.

The state visit is expected to strengthen bilateral relations between Việt Nam and Cuba, further cementing the friendship and cooperation that has been a cornerstone of international relations for decades.
